In February 2024, Lainey Wilson released a single titled “Country’s Cool Again” speaking to the trendiness of country music and boy was she right. In the months after the release, we saw Country music from Beyonce, Post Malone, Yung Gravy, and more.
Why is Country Cool Again?
Social media and streaming services have played a crucial role in this popularity surge. Platforms like TikTok have introduced country music to younger audiences through viral trends and challenges, while streaming services have made it easier than ever for listeners to discover and share their favorite country tracks. As a result, the genre has gained visibility and accessibility, contributing to its growing appeal.
Artists like Oliver Anthony, Priscilla Block, Cooper Alan and Walker Hayes have been reach incredible career heights after they gained attention on social media platforms. These artists were able to directly engage with fans in highly public forums, in turn catapulting their music onto the charts.
This resurgence can also be attributed to the genre’s ability to adapt and incorporate elements from pop, rock, and even hip-hop. Artists like Kacey Musgraves, Morgan Wallen, and Kane Brown have seamlessly blended these influences, creating a hybrid sound that resonates with today’s eclectic musical tastes. This fusion has helped country music break free from its traditional confines and reach listeners who might not have previously considered themselves fans of the genre. Likewise, it seems pop, rock and hip-hop artists are incorporating country elements into their own music.

Following the Trend
In addition to music, country fashion and style has become increasingly popular. Cowboy boots are now considered fashionable outside of rural areas, and “Disco cowgirl” and “coastal cowgirl” aesthetics are now commonplace among young girls. Although this may be a passing trend for many, country music will never be the same because of it!
